28 Feb Mix the Traditional with the Contemporary with your Chateau House Designs
I think we all can agree that the style of the French Chateau House is intriguing to us all. Whether or not you’re renovating a room or bathroom in your home, building a home from the ground up, adding an addition, or restoring your home, we at McNeil would like to be of service. We’d love to bring the contemporary Chateau house style to your home and infuse that with the modern chateau house styles. Below we want to give you an idea of what the traditional chateau house designs consisted of and where the modern ones are today. At any point, please head over to the McNeil Construction and Remodeling website to learn more about who we are and what we do.
The Traditional Chateau House
When we think of traditional chateau houses, we think of those tall, big gaudy country style castles where we’d expect to a Duke, or duchess roaming the fields and peering out of one of the many oversized windows that sit high above the ground.
Large masonry stones, which are laid in a brick pattern and a smeared mortar are reminiscent of the European time. Cast stone banding provides a more authentic feel than the typical stucco might achieve. Special touches such as copper on the chimney pots and on the cupola, adhere to the European period that the modern chateau house is trying to imitate. In a staggered unique pattern, concrete tile on the roof imitates the traditional wood shakes that is the chateau form. Another important detail are dormers. This Dormer detail will change the roofline to create exterior awareness and will help give the interior ceiling even more unique detail.
The Modern Chateau House
A great way to mold the contemporary chateau house with a modern one is to update the standard French Chateau colors into a more modern version of grey, white and the added warmth of wood. Solid hardwood floors throughout the main floor are a great idea; while including a unique pattern in the dining room. You can also warm up the sleek grey countertops with tile backsplashes, and fireplace surroundings. Transitional wooden cabinets in the kitchen and bathrooms and distressed flooring in the study, dining area, main master bedroom and hall provide the remodeled, modern feel you would want in your Chateau House design
